BECOMING A VALUABLE ASSET
In life something
valuab
("You are the
salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made
salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and
trampled underfoot. Matt 5:13)
In the book of Judges
Chapter 11, is a great warrior named, Jephthah. He was a Gileadite, his father
was called Gilead. But his mother was a prostitute. Because his mother was a
prostitute it made him illegitimate, which caused his half-brothers to force
him out of his father’s house.
One thing that made Jephthah
exceptional is that he built a good reputation for Himself. The scripture describes
him as a mighty warrior. Though he was a son of a Prostitute, that was not an obstacle
for him to be a great warrior. What is this telling us?
Our background might be
poor, or the least among our fellows but that should not be an issue to prevent
us from building a good reputation.
In the vs. 2, Gilead his
father’s wife bore him sons. When they grew up and realized Jephthah wasn’t a
complete brother to them, they decided to chase him out. And their reason was for
them to have a complete control over their father’s inheritance. It was not
Jephthah’s fault to be borne by a prostitute, but it was used against him and
didn’t get any of his fathers’ inheritance. He had no option than to run for
his life. He went to a land called Tob, a district on the east of Jordan (about
13 miles South-East of the sea of Galilee).
But a time came when the
Gileadites were attacked by the
Ammorites. Unfortunately, “Mr. mighty Warrior”
was not around, because he has been chased by his own brothers. But having set
some standards and reputation for himself, the elders of Gileadites came
looking for him and not his brothers. As scripture says in Matt 5:14, You
are the light of the world. A City set on a Hill cannot be hidden.
When the elders of Gilead
came to search for Jephthah, they didn’t even mention his brother’s names, for
they chose Inheritance and ignored anything that could have made them valuable
assets.
His brother’s threat to
kill him couldn’t stop him from becoming the first Gentleman of the Land of
Gilead. In life Valuable Assets are the ones that are always called into use. The
enemy cant changes your destiny because of his threat.
A man who was chased and
fled, because of his skills and strength he became the same person who saved
his people. Beloved identifying what makes you unique and working on it will
make you a valuable asset wherever you find yourself.
Don’t just be an Asset
but be a Valuable Asset.
