WHEN JESUS STEPS IN
John
5:1-9 New International Version (NIV)
Sometime later, Jesus went
up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. 2 Now there
is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is
called Bethesda[a] and which is surrounded by five covered
colonnades. 3 Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the
lame, the paralyzed. [4] [b] 5 One who was there had been an invalid for
thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in
this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
7 “Sir,”
the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is
stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”
8 Then
Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” 9 At once
the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
The day on which this took
place was a Sabbath,
When Jesus Steps in frustration stops, sickness flee,
toiling stops. It doesn’t matter the number of years our situation has been.
The presence of Jesus will always make the difference.
In the text above, there was a feast of the Jews in
Jerusalem and Jesus went there. In Jerusalem is a Pool at the sheep gate
(Bethesda) which means “House of Mercy”, were a lot of people the Bible
describes as ‘‘invalids’’ (Blind, Lame
and Paralyzed)
Their mission was just one, for the Angel assign to be
stirring the pool to do so for their deliverance. These people were just
helpless impotent to save themselves.
But the Angel of the Lord only perform that duty just in
some seasons, and not all the time. So until he comes they will still remain in
their situation. In life we sometimes depend on the schedule of some people for
our restoration and success. Just because we have seen them do for others, they
will do for us too. The fact is they probably might be working with their time
and seasons and not ours.
These invalids had their healing depending on the strongest
among them. It wasn’t the number of years any of them have stayed around the
pool. So the one who moves into the stirred water first was healed of any
sickness.
There was one man who was also behind the pool and has been
there for 38 bad years. This man probably could be the one who has been
there for a longer time. And he could probably see the Angel of the Lord stir
the water but couldn’t get into the pool first. For the 38years, he was there
witnessing people’s deliverance and healing from the sickness.
Beloved why would that happen to this man? Probably his
situation needed some sort of strength and he lacked that which resulted him
staying there for 38 years.
When Jesus stepped there this invalid man was lucky the
love and favor of the Lord fell on him. When
Jesus saw him He knew that man has been there for long and needed his healing.
Jesus asked one question, “Do you want to be healed”? You may
ask why Jesus knew this man has been there for long and needed help but was asking
him if he needed healing. And emphatically yes, he needed it.
But all he thought could happen was someone to take him
into the pool immediately the Angel of God stirs it. And he was right, probably
he has seen people helping some of the invalids into the pool and he didn’t
have anybody to help him. His dependence on a man brought nothing but
disappointment. Beloved if we depend on man we will always be disappointed.
But when Jesus got there, Love selected this man as being
the most miserable, needy and helpless in all that sad company, and wisdom
chose him as a vessel of instruction to the nations. Jesus spoke just a word “Rise,
take up your bed and walk” this single message from Jesus was sufficed.
The healing of this man contrast the quickening power of Christ with the
powerlessness of the law; it demanded strength from them in order to obtain the
life it promised, but this man was without strength.
Beloved it doesn’t matter the number of years, months, days
and weeks you have been in your situation, when Jesus steps in that situation,
you will be made whole. Forget about the normal trend you witnessed the
deliverance of others, when Jesus steps in your trend will be different but you
will be restored.
When Jesus steps in all protocols are broken, let’s not
lose hope as Jesus passes by we will receive just a word and that will be
enough for our Restoration. God Bless You.
Wonderful message. God richly bless you
